The Psychiatric Times published a compelling commentary by Douglas A. Kramer, MD regarding NY Solitary Confinement Reform efforts.  He asserts that "it defines who we are."  Is this who America is?  A country that withholds the most basic of human needs in our system of reform? This is no way to treat human beings.  It certainly is no way to reform behavior.  Solitary confinement has been shown to increase depression, anxiety, suicide attempts, aggression and psychosis.   The UN has declared solitary confinement for more than 15 consecutive days as torture.  Click here to read the entire article.
