As an individual with a very strong family history of addiction, a mother of two boys, aged 6 and 7, and an Addiction Medicine physician, one of my most frequent thoughts is "What can I do to minimize the chance that my children try drugs?" I figure, if they don't try it, they can' get addicted. So, I'm always looking for resources that can give me strategies. A great one called the Family Checkup can be found on the NIDAMED website.
I was just recently introduced to this website and it is full of so many good things, you can rest assured that you'll be seeing more links to their information. Although the Family Checkup is geared at adolescents, I will be starting this with my boys now to lay the foundation of supportive, open communication. Hope you like it as much as I do.
